Dr. Paul Faulkner and Dr. Carl Breechen had planned to present their “Celebration of Marriage” seminar this weekend at the Meadow View Church of Christ in Mesquite. In light of the looming category 4 storm and thousands of evacuees heading for North Texas they have extended an invitation to evacuees to attend the seminar by waiving the usual registration fee. The seminar is supposed to help husbands and wives strengthen their marriages and improve communication. This storm poses a source of great stress and conflict.
“We talked with Dr. Faulkner this morning who observed that being displaced by a natural disaster places extraordinary stress on marriages” said Ron Buch, a minister at the church. “He concluded it is absolutely the right thing to invite those escaping the hurricane to attend the seminar which will address, in part, conflict in marriage.”
Dr. Faulkner and Dr. Breechen have presented marriage seminars together since 1974 throughout the United States and several foreign countries. Dr. Faulkner is the founder of the Department of Marriage and Family Therapy at Abilene Christian University. He also is the founder of Resource for Living, Ltd an international counseling service provided to employees of corporations including Wal-mart, Firestone, and IBM. Dr. Breechen has been a professor of Family Relations at ACU for 40 years. Both men are currently in private practice as Marriage and Family Counselors.
The Celebration of Marriage Seminar will be held Friday 7-10:15 PM and Saturday 8:30-4:15 PM. Anyone displaced by the recent hurricanes is invited to attend the seminar held at the Meadow View Church of Christ at 4100 N. Galloway in Mesquite.
